Urban Renewal and Urban Development Project for Hamburg and Stockholm City
Hamburg is the second largest port in Europe and the second largest city in Germany. Here, what is said to be the largest urban renewal and urban development project in Europe is currently underway. The project called "HafenCity" is built on a semi-abandoned old port area. The planning vision of the project is to become a model of future European urban life and make Hamburg a charming "world city". According to the planning of the port new city west area, the former industrial area with its free trade zone and warehouses will be transformed into a new mixed-use urban space.
The Royal Seaport District of Stockholm City is one of the largest urban development and construction areas in Northern Europe and has historically been an important industrial production area. For nearly a hundred years, its three main areas have been important areas for coal storage and processing in gas plants. Today, the application of modern energy production technologies has led to the gradual disuse of the gasworks, while the entire harbour area provides the city with an important opportunity to redevelop the waterfront space, which will become a new cultural district for the city of Stockholm in the future.
